Dapet sms kalo gue lulus LIA...wih seneng banget.
Level terakhir.
Tapi akhirnya, alhamdulillah gue lulus...
The Problems with Living Cost in Foreign Country
Study abroad, especially in Europe, America, or Australia
is very interesting. In my opinion, the
quality of education in foreign country is better than in Indonesia. By studying abroad, students will get prestige
because of their educational background and they will get a job easier in
Indonesia for sure. But somehow, study
abroad can cause so many problems. One
of the problems is the problem in living cost.
Living cost in foreign country can make some problems to students who
study abroad, such as; the cost for food, research, and accommodation.
The first problem is the cost for food. In our country, the food price is commonly
reasonable even www.lonelyplanet.com said that Indonesia is
the cheapest travel destinations in Asia; it includes the cost for food. But it is different in foreign country. The price of the food might be not as affordable
as in Indonesia. The use of dollar which
is equals to around 9.000 IDR and use of Euro which is equals to around
11.000-12.000 IDR could be the reason why the food cost there is quite
expensive especially for us, Indonesian people.
Based on www.mytravelcost.com the food cost in
United States of America is 48% more expensive than in Indonesia, it is surely a big
difference. As examples, price of the
white rice in Indonesia is around 3.000-5.000 rupiah per portion but in America
it could be 10.000-18.000 rupiah per portion even in Europe the price of the
white rice per portion is could up to 3.5US$ which is equals to 33.000 rupiah
and 1lb bananas in Indonesia is 7.000 rupiah, in United States it is 1.6US$
which is equals to 15.000 rupiah and in Europe it could be 2.6US$ which is equals
to 25.000 rupiah. The impact of the
expensive food for us as Indonesians is, if we want to eat at the restaurant
the price of the food is not affordable.
The restaurant in foreign country is usually sell good food. If we want to find the cheaper one, it is
commonly junk food or fast food which is not healthy that will affect to our
body.
Students in America and Europe are usually do researches
for assignment and make a thesis for the college students. Doing researches in foreign country could
make us spend a lot of money. The cost
of doing a research is the second problem of the living cost, especially for
doing the social research. In social
research, people usually do a survey to many respondents. They are not always in the same city or even
in the same country. They could be in
abroad or really in far place. It means
that we will spend our money for the transportation fare. Expensive fuel prices in almost all countries
in Europe and America could be the cause why the transportation fare there is
not cheap. The problem is not only in
the transportation but also in the equipment.
After asking the respondents, researcher will analyze the data by doing
computation that use statistical software.
In Indonesia we could get the software easily by buying pirated software
with cheap price, but not in abroad, especially America. The use of software is under the law, this
rule is really strict. It is really an
illegal thing if someone provides software or web services at cost without a
license. Because of that, the
statistical software could be very expensive and surely will make difficult to
us to do the computation or analyze the data. And the last problem of living cost is in the
accommodation. Finding a place to stay
in foreign country is difficult.
If we
study abroad surely the students want a comfortable and ideal place to stay for
a long time, even some of them wondering to have a good apartment appropiate
with their appetite. Yes, students can
rent an apartment or flat to stay. But,
as a student, rent an apartment is exactly very expensive. In America, renting an apartment for a month
could cost at least 900US$ which is equals to 8.500.000 rupiah but the students
also must pay the flat rate which is includes the electricity charge, charge to
connect to the internet (if we use it out of certain hours of the day), and
also charge for the services. If we want
to find a place to stay which is cheaper than an apartment we can stay at a
dormitory. A dormitory in Indonesia
could cost 180.000-600.000 rupiah per month but in Canada it cost at least
650US$ per month that is equals to 6 million rupiah. Even though there is a place to stay beside
an apartment, such as; dormitory but it still not reasonable for students from
Indonesia.
So, study abroad has many advantages but also has its
drawbacks. The expensive cost for the
food, research, and accommodation can make us difficult to use some facilities
that we really need as students to study.
Study abroad sounds very interesting but it also can make some problems
in the living cost.
